Technically challenging electrical connector
Our customer was involved in the design and development of a new innovative connector system for use in deep drilling operations. The connector system utilises a range of connector ports used in different combinations to allow high (15,000 volts), low voltage and signal cables to be joined.
Selecting the correct elastomer was crucial to its operation as the rubber had to withstand oils and gasses combined with a temperature range from -500 to +300. In addition the material needed to be capable of being processed into complex shapes as well as being bonded to the conducting inserts.
The team at TRP were able to achieve all of the demands as well as the design of the tooling and extracting fixtures.
This included five variants in shape and terminal connectors providing a full proof way of insuring the correct connections are made.
